Teaching the 4 R’s in Indigenous Education; Honoring the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
Reconciliation starts with constructing relationships and honoring the journey it requires to draw upon Indigenous worldviews and ways of knowing teaching and learning. As classroom teachers, we have a great impact and influence on our students. The building of community, the creation of learning opportunities, and the knowledge shared in our classes can be facilitated by our ongoing commitment to equity and diversity. The 4 R’s; Respect, Responsibility, Reciprocity, and Relationships are all equal in importance and taught holistically when forwarding the journey in Reconciliation. This presentation will engage, encourage, and empower classroom teachers as they endeavor to embed reconciliation principles in their classrooms. K-12 educator resources will be shared to support the learning experiences of all learners to demonstrate the diverse strength of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit perspectives.
